Your catering equipment are a primary component of your catering business, it defines how well you can compete with your competitors. Visit a Mexican Restaurant This Indepence Day

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

This 4th of July celebrate American Independence day with a twist – why not spice things up with a trip south and try some Tex-mex style cuisine? Those cajun flavours really heat up a party and the great things is that this is fast food with a health kick.

Avocados, chillies, lemons, onions, crisp lettuce and juicy tomatoes – these are just the basics for a Mexican feast. But what a feast, the health benefits of the fresh veg far outweigh the calorie heavy carbohydrates found in the wraps, re-fried beans and the rice.

Fry up some chicken breast and sprinkle with Mexican spices, toss in some roughly chopped bell peppers and hear the pan sizzle. Add some large pieces of red onion and the sizzle goes on, I can practically smell it from here!

Mash up an avocado with chopped garlic, chilli and finely chopped tomatoes, combine and season well with salt and pepper, then a squeeze of fresh lime and some chopped coriander and you have the tastiest and healthiest dip you can imagine.

Heat tortillas in a heavy bottomed skillet and then slice for the perfect thing to dip in guacamole and salsa.

Or even better try tex-Mex online ordering and you can Order online Tex-Mex food at the touch of a button, or the click of a mouse.

Happy Independence Day!

Jumping Monkey Natural Indian | Restaurants in Santa Cruz

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

The Jumping Monkey Natural Indian is a funny name which attracted me to this place. It’s not like other restaurants in Santa Cruz, and just the name alone pushes the limits further than any other Santa Cruz restaurant. These are my reviews of the Jumping Monkey Natural Indian restaurant in Santa Cruz:

The food here is a little sweet. It is neither very authentic, nor very creative. Somewhat pricey for what it has to offer. The service is a little snobbish, which I could tolerate if it were made up by food quality, which it is not. If you are looking for generic Indian fare (but good quality), try the Passage of India buffet nearby. For imaginative Indian food, try Juno on, temptations, turmeric, or Amber in San Jose. For down to earth vegetarian food, try Cha at Paradise. For funky spicy meaty food, try the Royal Ta in Santa Cruz. Just stay away from this one!

A Brief History of Vacuum Coffee Makers

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

Those interested in the somewhat esoteric subject of the varieties and history of modern coffee makers will have an appreciation for the vacuum model. This gizmo uses a distinct 2 chambered coffeepot with a unique design. Most inventions in the coffee world belong first to the French (in the 19th century) and then to the Italians and the Americans (in the 20th century); but the vacuum coffee maker is a German invention by Loeff of Berlin, Germany, and dates back to around 1800. Though invented by a German, it was the improved 2 globe design made by Madame Vassieux of Lyons, France, that has given us the vacuum coffee maker as we know it today. The reason this kind of coffee brewer was invented in the first place was because of the widespread prejudice of the time that there was something wrong with boiling coffee grounds or whole roast coffee beans in hot water.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Nirvana Cake

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Ethan Gibble is a content specialist and blogger for WEBstaurant Restaurant Supply. He researches and writes about issues facing the restaurant industry on a local, national, and global scale.

By Ethan Gibble

Few things in this life can trump the joy that I feel after biting into a moist, deliciously chocolate piece of cake. That may be a bit melodramatic, but I do enjoy cake–which unfortunately would not come as a shock to you should you observe my physique. You take the good with the bad, I suppose.

Combine aforementioned moist cake with one of my other vices, peanut butter, and yes; nirvana is within reach. This chocolate cake with peanut butter icing is a recipe that my Grandmother used to make frequently when I was young, and I have now taken over the reins. If you enjoy rich chocolate cake and creamy peanut butter icing, read on.

Ingredients: Cake

  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 2 1/4 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Ingredients: Icing

  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 tbsp. peanut butter (or more)

Directions: Cake

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease and flour a 9″ x 13″ baking pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, stir salt, baking powder, baking soda, flour, sugar, and cocoa.
  4. Once dry ingredients are well mixed, add in vanilla, milk, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat until smooth.
  5. Stir in boiling water. Don’t worry–the batter should be runny.
  6. Stir in semi sweet chocolate chips and pour into pan.
  7. Bake 35-40 minutes. Toothpick tests do not apply as this cake is meant to be a bit “gooey.”

Directions: Icing

  1. Place small sauce pot on stove turned to medium heat.
  2. Pour milk into the pot and stir in flour. Stir until mixture is thick and remove from heat. Wait until mixture is cool until proceeding.
  3. Scrape your cooked mixture into a standard mixing bowl. Add Crisco, margarine, sugar, and vanilla.
  4. Beat the @#!$ out of it (Grandma’s instructions per recipe–her words, not mine!). The longer you beat it, the smoother it will be.
  5. Add peanut butter. I like to use about 4 tsp. for a subtle flavoring, but more or less can be used to suit your tastes.
  6. Beat until peanut butter is blended well into the mixture.
  7. Once cake has cooled, spread the icing and enjoy!
